7 Best Travel Cameras in 2024

I don’t know about you, but I love to travel. Seeing new sights, trying new foods, and one of the best parts is documenting everything to capture those beautiful memories. That’s why it’s so important to choose the right camera. When I think of the perfect travel camera, I’m looking for something easy to use, with amazing image quality for both photos and videos, all while being compact and lightweight. Today, I’ll share with you seven of the best travel cameras currently on the market. If any better cameras come out after I publish this video, I’ll try to update the links in the description below.

7. Fujifilm X100VI

Coming in at number 7, we have the Fujifilm X100VI. This is one of the most enjoyable cameras to use, mostly due to the retro-inspired body with all its tactile buttons and dials. It’s also one of the most capable, packing a 40-megapixel APS-C sensor that’ll give you awesome photos and videos. It has a 35mm equivalent fixed lens with an f/2 aperture, perfect for that sought-after blurry background and low-light shots.

If you find yourself in overly bright sunlight, it has a built-in ND filter. It’s compact, weighing only 521 grams, and the in-body image stabilization helps you get sharp photos and stable video.

This camera deserves to be higher on the list, but it’s often out of stock. I’ve left a link below in case you’re fortunate enough to find it available.

6. Panasonic Lumix S9

Next, we have the Lumix S9, a compact camera with a very attractive design, similar to the X100VI but with two major differences. It has a full-frame sensor and interchangeable lenses. This allows for flexibility in your shots; for example, you can use a 35mm lens for close-up shots or a 200mm lens for distant shots.

The 24-megapixel CMOS sensor in the S9 is the same as in the Lumix S5II, providing cinema-quality video and top-of-the-line photos. Its in-body image stabilization is excellent, making handheld shooting look like you used a tripod. It also has a fully articulating screen, adding to its versatility.

5. Sony A6700

Sony a6700

Coming in at number 5, we have the Sony A6700, an interchangeable lens APS-C camera with a 26-megapixel sensor. It has a compact body design but isn’t as stylish as the X100VI or Lumix S9. However, it’s extremely capable in both photo and video. A huge advantage of Sony cameras is the vast range of available lenses. It also has a fully articulating screen, in-body image stabilization, and can capture 10-bit 4K video in log format, ideal for color grading. Sony’s new AI-powered autofocus system is a significant advantage, making missed focus shots a rarity.

4. Canon EOS R7

The Canon EOS R7 is a 32-megapixel interchangeable lens APS-C camera. Its design is more traditional for a mirrorless camera, a bit larger and heavier than the previous models, but still manageable. It provides professional-quality photos and can capture 4K, 10-bit video in C-log. It also has in-body image stabilization and a fully articulating screen. Canon’s autofocus system is on par with Sony’s, and Canon colors look amazing straight out of the camera, especially skin tones. The user interface is easy to use, making it an excellent choice for beginners. The ergonomics and grip make it comfortable to hold.

3. Sony A7CII

Sony Alpha 7C II

At number 3, we have the Sony Alpha 7C II, a.k.a the Sony A7CII, a full-frame interchangeable lens camera in an extremely compact body.

It’s a more capable version of the A6700, offering all its features with the added benefits of a full-frame sensor. It has in-body image stabilization, a fully articulating screen, top-notch autofocus, and outstanding stills and video capabilities. It’s not the most stylish camera, but in terms of results, it’s hard to beat.

2. DJI Osmo Pocket 3

My next two choices may surprise you. Although their image quality isn’t as high as the previous cameras due to their 1-inch sensors, they offer exceptional portability.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is incredibly compact, weighing only 179 grams. It delivers surprisingly good image quality for its size, can shoot 10-bit video up to 120 fps for slow motion, and has a built-in gimbal for ultra-smooth video. It’s great for vlogging with its 2-inch screen and advanced autofocus. However, it’s not as well suited for photos as it is for video.

1. Sony RX100 VII

Sony RX100 VII

My number one spot goes to the Sony RX100 VII, an older model but still a powerhouse. It’s extremely small and easily fits into your pocket, yet it’s powerful for both photos and videos. It has a 20-megapixel stacked 1-inch CMOS sensor and a fixed 24-200mm equivalent f/2.8-4.5 lens. It features a tilt-up screen for low-angle shots and vlogging, a pop-up EVF, and built-in flash. It can shoot 8-bit 4K video up to 30 fps and 960 fps in lower resolutions for 30x slow motion. While its image quality isn’t as high as the first five cameras, it’s a compelling choice for an ultra-compact, versatile travel camera.

Runner-Up

Canon EOS R50

As a runner-up, consider the Canon R50, an entry-level interchangeable lens APS-C camera. It’s like a smaller version of the Canon R7 and offers excellent value at an affordable price.
